今日のウィキる対象は、secretary 。
「秘書」という意味で覚えましたが、アメリカでは国務長官、農務長官のような「長官」も指します。
Wikipedia では「Political minister」の項に
A minister or a secretary is ...
と、ありますので、日本の「大臣」とほぼ同じものと思っていいようです。

また日本では、省庁という言い方がされ、「……省」と「……庁」という区別があり、後者の長も「長官」と呼びます。
